The Role of Motor Control Unit (MCU) in Electric Vehicles

In electric vehicles, as a device that controls the drive motor of an electric vehicle, is the control center of the power system.

The Motor Control Unit (MCU) has the following functions:

(1) Through power semiconductors, microprocessors, and other power electronic devices, the use of low- and medium-voltage frequency conversion and other ways to achieve the function of regulating the automotive air conditioning compressor, steering booster pump motor and so on.

(2) Converts the DC power from the power battery into the AC power required by the drive motor by receiving the control information transmitted from the vehicle controller and the control mechanism (brake pedal, gas pedal, gearshift mechanism).

(3) By controlling the voltage and current of the EV drive motor to control the speed, torque, and steering of the drive motor, it realizes the driving status of the electric vehicle such as start-up operation, in-and-out speed, and climbing strength.

(4) Control the output of the power cell to help the electric vehicle brake and store some of the braking energy into the power cell.
